Commissioning of eMASS® at ArcelorMittal Bremen
Some installation situations are more challenging than others, but even with unusual requirements, EMG's design and service department tries to meet all the customer's specialties as far as possible.
An example of this was the on-time delivery and subsequent installation of an EMG- eMASS® system in combination with the electronic baffle blade control system EMG eBACS in August and September last year.
A special feature of the solution was the installation of the strip stabilization below a movable tower (GA-Rig), which makes it possible to move the EMG- eMASS® system out of the zone of the air knife and zinc pot without great effort. Regular work on the air knife or the pot rolls is therefore not made more difficult by EMG- eMASS®.
The picture shows the finished installation. If necessary, the system is first moved vertically upwards. The travel path is visible through the shiny silver bellows. In the second step, it is then moved completely out of the critical zone of the system using the "GA-Rig". It then returns to the production position in reversed order.
Since the entire construction is movable and the control cabinet is placed on the "production hall floor", an additional cable loop had to be laid and the cable path on the tower also had to be rebuilt.
In the course of this project, it was thus possible to implement even short-term changes and adaptations through the flexible use of EMG's mechanical production, testing and toolmaking departments.
On Tuesday, 10.09.2019, the plant finally started up on schedule.
At the final installation meeting the following day in Bremen, Germany, EMG received very positive feedback regarding, among other things, the EMG service team and the supervision and execution of the mechanical installation by an EMG subcontractor and its welding specialists.
Since such a special construction is not the "daily bread", the EMG team was more than pleased that the installation and commissioning could be completed to the customer's complete satisfaction in the time available.
