EMG iCON® XE: The standard controller
The standard controller for all EMG's strip guiding and QA solutions
At the turn of the millennium, the final conversion of EMG strip guiding systems from the "old" analogue world to the current digital world with microprocessors took place. It is worth mentioning, however, that the first steps towards the digitalisation of the EMG product world were already taken in 1986 with the Z80 processor. Our developers are already telling their grandchildren about it today!
But seriously, the SPC16, which was introduced around the year 2000, has successfully mastered for many years all tasks related to strip guiding and quality assurance systems of EMG. With the introduction of the modern digital controller generation EMG iCON® SE in 2013, the functional range of the controller was significantly extended. In the last four years to date, all EMG products have been successively converted to this controller family.
Since the beginning of this year, all EMG systems are now delivered with the EMG iCON® XE controller. Compared to the introduction of EMG iCON® technology, the microprocessor's computing power is three to four times higher and the program memory is 16 times larger. The RAM memory has been increased by a factor of 8 and an additional 8 MB SD memory is available. This means that the EMG iCON® XE is ideally positioned to meet the increasing requirements not only for EMG QA systems. The use of Infineon processor technology also ensures the long-term availability of the processor core. One of the standard bus interfaces is the Profibus.
With the additional fieldbus interface "Profinet Device", directly on the EMG iCON® XE controller, this increasingly popular interface to the plant automation system can also be easily operated. This eliminates the need for the formerly necessary gateway.
In summary, EMG customers now have access to an extremely powerful, standardised EMG controller technology for all application scenarios. EMG iCON® XE is used in all EMG solutions and consequently brings significant additional cost advantages in spare parts management and handling.
