High-precision strip edge and strip centre guiding systems
The EMI inductive strip edge position sensing system is used for high-precision strip edge and strip centre guiding procedures on uncoilers, steering rolls and on recoilers without a mechanical link arm, as well as for strip edge tracking and/or shielding processes. In the case of strip centre guiding systems, sensing of the strip width is possible as an optional extra. Completely insensitive to contamination and vapours, the system's measuring accuracy is ±1 mm, provided that the strip material and strip thickness are constant.
A compact, ready-to-assemble measuring frame consisting of anodised aluminium extrusions contains inductive sensors, which are moved by an electric motor on both sides of the strip. The two sensors above and below the strip are mechanically coupled at the side via a synchronising shaft and they follow the strip edges in rigid position control loops. The sensor positions are continuously registered via an integrated position sensor. These positions and the sensor coverage are used to calculate the positions of the strip edges and the strip width. The evaluation and drive electronics are installed in a separate housing together with the digital strip position controller.
