3x EMG IMPOCpro – Increasing quality requirements
Severstal USA, ThyssenKrupp Steel Germany and Tata Steel in the Netherlands each ordered an IMPOCpro system from EMG within a short time. This is a great success for EMG, which shows that the improvement of product quality is one of the decisive issues in the steel industry and that EMG with IMPOCpro provides the tool of choice for this. The experience gained from 26 systems sold in 8 countries shows that through the increase in product quality and efficiency in manufacturing processes with EMG-IMPOCpro, the total investment pays for itself within 12 - 24 months at the latest.
EMG-IMPOCpro for Severstal, USA
IMPOCpro will go into service in the new hot-dip galvanizing line at Severstal USA in Dearborn, Michigan, which is to start operation in the fourth quarter of 2011 or the first quarter of 2012. One of the products to be manufactured is intended for use in the demanding automotive industry. For this Severstal relies on optimized processes with EMG-IMPOCpro for the highest product quality right from the start.
IMPOCpro is used in Dearborn with strip widths between 710-1860 mm and a strip speed of 400 meters per minute.
EMG-IMPOCpro for Tata Steel IJmuiden, the Netherlands
Pickling line 21 will be the location of the EMG-IMPOCpro system at Tata Steel IJmuiden in the Netherlands. The material widths moving on this line are between 700-2135 mm with thicknesses of 1.37 to 6.55 mm.
EMG-IMPOCpro for ThyssenKrupp Steel, Germany
ThyssenKrupp Steel (TKS) once again relies on higher production quality through EMG-IMPOCpro. With IMPOCpro on galvanizing line 2 in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth this will now be the eighth IMPOCpro system altogether in operation at TKS and its subsidiaries. In this case the system will determine tensile strength and yield point online for strips with widths from 600 to 1550 mm and strip thicknesses of 0.4 to 4.0 mm. The goal is to reduce waste at the beginning and end of the strips, and to thus increase the overall yields with the same material throughput.

With the online measurement of tensile strength and yield point with IMPOCpro, EMG offers a system for optimizing all production processes in hot-dip galvanizing lines, continuous annealing, pickling, cutting or even tinning lines. All measured values are available immediately. Production errors are thus minimized, and costly and time consuming sampling are reduced to a minimum. The data obtained with IMPOCpro also allows for sustainable optimization of the processes, with which the production of new, higher value products is now possible.
