History

1946

EMG Luftaufnahme

EMG Automation GmbH was created on 22 June 1946 as a subsidiary of Nationale Automobilgesellschaft (NAG), a wholly owned subsidiary of AEG.
It is headquartered in Wendenerhütte. The village’s name is based on the iron smeltery, which was built here in 1728. After some difficult years this iron smeltery became one of the most important smelteries in South Westphalia in 1731. After more than 100 successful years the smeltery was put out of service in 1866 because it wasn’t competitive anymore after the Ruhr-Sieg railway was built, which connected the area around Siegen to the area at the Ruhr.
In 1888 a knitting mill was settled in the buildings of the smeltery, which emerged very successfully until 1895. Due to this success a new building was raised in 1921/22. In the following years after putting the knitting mill out of service this building was used for an arms industry, a military hospital as well as a retirement home and a chapel until the EMG moved in 1 July 1946.
Between 1914 and 1916 more and more living houses around the smeltery where built. Today the village consists of 26 houses and 85 habitants.
The old empty buildings of the smeltery were converted to a museum in 1977. Since that the “Wendernerhütte” is a technical and cultural monument and very interesting for tourists.
The museum can also be booked for events and visitations and is also used for customer events by EMG as well.
