Inductive VKI system
The inductive VKI system is used for sensing the strip edge; the strip centre or the strip width of metal strip or foil in rolling mills. It consists of an aluminium measuring assembly which should be installed below the metal strip in the vicinity of a deflector roll, and separate evaluation electronics.
The measuring assembly is made from anodised extruded aluminium section, the surface being covered by a polyamide plate to ensure splash resistance. Inductive sensors are installed below the cover plate on one or both sides of the strip. They are moved by an electric motor at both edges of the strip and follow the strip edge in rigid position control loops and signal their position values continuously to the electronic unit. Based on these position values and the sensor covering, the positions of both strip edges, the strip position and the strip width are calculated.
The strip sensing distance should not exceed 22 mm!
