Patented infrared sensor technology with CONESPLIT® Same Spot
CONESPLIT® Same Spot Technology uses a patented measuring procedure to directly (selectively) measure layer thickness online which is a globally unique selling point of Protagon.
Special features:
- Simultaneous and same spot scanning of the spectral properties of the web by using 6 parallel optoelectronic channels
- Measuring wave lengths are selected specifically for the application. Therefore only information-including ranges of the possible spectrum are used, and redundant information as is common for full spectrum analyzers is avoided, which significantly enhances the measuring speed and simplifies the calibration procedure
- Splitting of the measuring beam with virtually no losses to the wavelength specific detectors
- Very high signal level and signal-to-noise ratio
- Simultaneous use of the near IR and mid IR spectral ranges allows measuring of the absorption band that yields the maximum resolution for the given coating substrate

Customer benefits of the CONESPLIT Same Spot Technology
- Selective measuring using only one measuring point
- Very high measuring precision
- Non-nuclear technology without safety requirements
- Operation does not require official approval
- No falsification of measured results as all filters are supplied with information obtained from the same measuring spot, irrespective of the web movement
- Up to 6 parallel measuring channels
- Wide IR spectral range (1-4 μm) with pre-selected wave lengths
- Computation and output of all wave lengths and measuring channels in less than 10 ms
- Not sensitive to optical disturbances, therefore thin layers may be measured as well
- Long-life IR source, therefore no routine maintenance is required
Fields of application
| Coating applications metal | Measuring range (DW)* |
| Adhesives or polymers on metallic surfaces | 1 - 50 g/m2 |
| Clear or slightly pigmented paints, PVC, PVDC or wax | 1 - 20 g/m2 |
| Anti-corrosion oil and lubricants on metallic surfaces | 0.1- 3 g/m2 |
| Aqueous or solvent-based organic coatings on polymer films | 0.2- 3 g/m2 |
| Selective barrier layers | |
| *DW = Dry Weight |
Exeption: The infrared measuring system can in general not be used for black, sooty materials because of the absolute absorbtion of light!
