2017 in retrospect
Further developments and innovations in the EMG product portfolio 2017
In 2017, EMG demonstrated reliability and success with further installations and subsequent industrial use of the integrated solution of the EMG eMASS® electromagnetic strip stabilisation system with a DUMA-BANDZINK nozzle. As recently presented to an international audience at the Galvatech Conference 2017 in Japan, the two systems at voestalpine Stahl and thyssenkrupp Steel more than fulfilled the expectations placed in them. A third system has just been installed at SSAB Hämeenlinna, Finland.

And then there is another innovation topic, which this year called for determination and perseverance. This refers to the extension of the EMG product portfolio for online oil layer measurement to laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy EMG SOLID®. With today's offer of two industrially proven solutions for online oil layer thickness measurement in the production of steel and aluminium sheets, EMG now offers the user an optimal and safe solution for measuring the oil layer in the production process. The selection of the technology, whether infrared spectroscopy EMG SOLID® IR or laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy EMG SOLID® LIF, is based exclusively on the best possible results with one or the other solution. In addition, fluorescence spectroscopy can be used to detect very small impurities or molecular layers in a wide variety of application scenarios that go far beyond metallic surfaces.

Finally, with regard to the topic "Impact of new solutions", it should be noted that the radar-based EMG-Vivaldi® sensor system has become increasingly accepted as the standard solution for strip centre control in continuous annealing furnaces. The system impresses with its high accuracy, its low maintenance, its insensitivity to strip fluctuations and the installation of all electronic and mechanical sensor components outside the furnace atmosphere. Since the solution was introduced in 2015, 60 EMG-Vivaldi® sensor systems have been ordered. Of these, 28 systems are now in operation.
