Apprenticeship far beyond standard

As part of an apprenticeship at EMG, we also offer our trainees further special services that go beyond the usual training framework:

Broadening horizons

Apprentice exchange programme between EMG Automation GmbH and SMS group

Getting to know one's own profession from a new perspective: Every year, we regularly provide apprentices with fascinating insights into the working world and production processes of our parent company SMS group. The aim is to provide our apprentices with a practical understanding of as many facets of their specialist field as possible. The exchange programme lasts several weeks on both sides (EMG also takes on 2 apprentices from SMS at the same time, for example, in its automation sector).

Spending time studying and travelling

Staying in a different country during the course of one's studies or apprenticeship is something quite special. Unlike a holiday, young people get to learn about the everyday life of the people in their host country and become familiar with how they work and how they spend their free time. What's more, it also provides them with an opportunity to improve their language skills.

EMG encourages its apprentices to spend part of their apprenticeship abroad. Janek Wendland, for example, is an industrial mechanic who worked for 4 weeks at EMG's subsidiary BST Sayona in Ahmedabad, India.

"I felt that my stay in India was a great experience for both my apprenticeship and my personal life. I cannot recommend this highly enough to anyone that has such an opportunity".
Janek Wendland

Aileen Dostal, an industrial management assistant at EMG, visited Italy during her apprenticeship, where she spent three week at BST eltromat Italia s.r.l. and was able to become acquainted with the professional life of her Italian colleagues. She was particularly impressed by the familiar atmosphere at BST eltromat Italia and wouldn't have wanted to miss her stay there either.

"During the breaks, we usually ate together with all of the other employees, which further enhanced the familiar atmosphere. It was an unforgettable and instructive period of my life."
Aileen Dostal

Visits to our subsidiaries

We offer our apprentices guided visits of our subsidiaries in Germany within the framework of our EMG Academy.

Regular apprentice trips

We have been running trips for all of EMG's apprentices since the mid-60s. Cities visited by EMG's apprentices and tutors include Berlin, Nuremberg, Bremen, Dresden, Munich and many others besides.  We always try to ensure these trips are run in a technical/cultural context. This could be, for example, visiting an automotive plant, a subsidiary or even a cooperating company. One thing is certain: There is no shortage of fun during the 3-day excursions and apprentices and tutors alike are provided with an excellent opportunity to get to know each other better and to further enhance the team spirit.
