In a continuous furnace

Bandlaufregelung im Durchlaufofen

In a continuous furnace, strip guidance systems are required because of the long free distances and the various effects of the thermal process. On the drive and on the operating side, suitable positioning frames are arranged below the plummer blocks of the deflector roll(s).

Modern practice is that for correcting strip travel, the two halves of the positioning frames are moved by two EMG electric servo cylinders (ESZ) with an electronically synchronised control system.

Curved paths or suitably designed lever systems provide a virtual fulcrum in the centre of the plane of the incoming strip. In the case of long strip entry and exit distances, additional correction of the incoming strip is possible by enlarging the angle between the swivel plane and the strip entry plane (> 90°).

For sensing the strip position when the temperature at the sensing point is up to 1000 °C, IMH inductive strip centre position sensing systems are used . This procedure, which has been selected by EMG for carrying out sensing on red hot metal, is ideally suitable , as it is not influenced by ionising furnace atmospheres, and the quality of the material and it's surface condition do not have a disturbing effect.
